Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the type of editing you need, the project length, and the project itself! Shorter pieces such as blog posts and magazine articles can take as little as one day, while full-length book manuscripts typically take a few months. Contact me so we can discuss your project and whether my services will work with your schedule.
Yes! I recommend combining content editing and copyediting. You might also wish to combine either or both of these services with developmental editing. I will happily combine proofreading with any service except copyediting—I firmly believe that a proofreader needs a fresh pair of eyes with a project! I'm happy to recommend colleagues of mine to proofread your project after I've copyedited it (or vice versa).
I typically charge per word in accordance with the recommendations of the Editorial Freelancers Association. In order to provide a firm quote, I need to see a sample of the project or discuss it with you. Please fill out this form to request a quote or to start a conversation about your project's editorial needs.
I use the Editorial Freelancers Association's guidelines and industry standards in determining my rates. I also review project samples or discuss a project with clients to estimate the time commitment it will require before establishing a rate. I am also happy to discuss an hourly or per-page rate instead of my standard per-word rate, depending on the project.
Please let me know right away if you have any concerns with my edits. I want to work with you to make sure I'm meeting your expectations and helping you to improve your content, and the sooner I'm aware of an issue, the sooner I can correct it!
Content edits and developmental edits are often very subjective, and sometimes writers and editors just don't agree on what's best for a piece. That's to be expected! So, to make sure that we're on the same page (at least for the most part), I offer a discounted sample edit on full-length manuscripts and long-term projects. If we decide to move forward after this sample edit and you're not happy with my services thereafter, we'll discuss ways to resolve the issue, potentially including a full or partial refund.
When it comes to grammar, spelling, and mechanics, no copyeditor or proofreader can guarantee an error-free product, but I strive to get as close to error-free as humanly possible. I will always be open to discussing partial and full refunds for significant oversights or issues with copyedits and proofs.
